The Fire's Edge Available Now!

Aug 18, 2026

The Fire’s Edge, the first new Darkest Dungeon DLC since 2020, is now live! This DLC includes two heroes, The Runaway and The Duelist, who made their debut in Darkest Dungeon II, a new combat mechanic, unique trinkets, plus 3 more Districts.

The team has always been interested in backporting The Runaway and The Duelist to the original Darkest Dungeon, and with the game celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, it seemed like the perfect time to add something new!

Each new hero has their own unique style of gameplay: The Duelist is able to dance between ranks, while freely maintaining Riposte as she switches between two combat stances, whereas The Runaway makes use of Burn, a combat mechanic unique to her class. And don’t worry about finding room for these new additions! The Runaway and The Duelist will each expand your roster by 1 slot. The Fire’s Edge also adds a number of Trinkets with all new mechanics including Trinkets that come charged with powerful limited effects, or ones that transform through use as you complete your expeditions. Rounding out this update are some new town events, and 3 new Districts for your Hamlet: the Academie Duello, Craftworks, and Archaeological Base Camp, which offer new bounties such as weekly Heirlooms and Trinkets, as well as damage boosts to heroes.

This DLC is available on Steam, Epic Games Store, and GoG, as well as PlayStation and Xbox. The DLC will also be coming to Nintendo Switch on August 20th.

Modding

The game has been in a stable place for several years now, so we were careful to approach The Fire’s Edge in a way that would not interfere with existing mods. The changes we’re introducing are all additive, and do not affect existing heroes or enemies. To help ensure this DLC was solid, we invited several members of the Darkest Dungeon modding community to help us test, and provide vital feedback during the development process. We owe a debt of gratitude to every single member of our test pool, and cannot thank them enough for their enthusiasm and thorough testing over the last month.

Today’s release should provide some exciting new toys for the mod community. The inclusion of a functioning Burn combat mechanic, plus the various Trinket mechanics in this DLC should create even more opportunities for modders to experiment and create. And there is even more coming!

Our team is currently working on a new and improved mod loader, something that has been highly requested by the community for some time. In addition to this, we have considered a number of ideas pitched to us by our test pool that could improve the modding scene further, and help extend the lifespan of the product. We are hoping to implement some of these requests over the next few weeks. A followup release is currently planned for the end of August, and we will likely kick off an open beta for the new mod loader in the next week or so.

For now, we hope you enjoy The Fire’s Edge. It was a real pleasure to return to the original Darkest Dungeon and surprise you all with this new content. Thank you again for the support!

And finally, a note for Xbox and Nintendo Switch players:

Right before release we discovered an issue with town activity log and graveyard strings. We have since resolved the issue for PC/Mac/Linux and PS4 users. We are currently working on a hot fix for Microsoft platforms and hope to have that released by the end of the week. Hotfixes on Nintendo Switch tend to take longer based on normal submission times.

The issue is due to a change we did during implementation that resulted in some saved strings losing their previous reference and thus showing incorrect or missing strings as part of their entries in activity log and graveyards, particularly around character death sources. Due to the nature of the fix both new and legacy saves may have permanent missing strings in either the graveyard or town activity logs if a character died before the fixes were applied. Another potential edge case could be some achievements being awarded erroneously based on death effect (hunger or heart attack achievements) as an example.

As noted above, this issue has already been fixed on Steam/EGS/GoG, and PS4. If you play on these platforms, your save files will be unaffected. Fixes for Microsoft Platforms, and Nintendo Switch are in the works, and we will notify the community once they are available.
