It’s February! The Radiant Update is shaping up quite nicely and it’s time to introduce the final champion monster: The Swine Skiver

The porcine horrors of the Warrens delight in the manic cruelty of the hunt.
There is no finer sport to the Pig-Men than the pursuit of screaming victims through the labyrinthine squalor of the Warrens.  Although their blood lust is insatiable, they are not overly fond of drawn out chases. Thus Skivers have been bred and trained as expert javelineers.  Even the swiftest runner  cannot outpace a hurled missile!  Then, slow, potent, paralytic toxins do the rest of the work, reducing the pursued prey to a crawling, twitching wretch – screaming for mercy that will never come!

    Party Names

Everyone knows about the “Usual Suspects” or the “Red Hook” party combo, but not everyone knows that all those names came from our Kickstarter Backers. At the time we did the original survey, the Houndmaster, Arbalest, Man-at-Arms, Abomination, and Antiquarian were not in the game yet, and as such they have zero unique party names. Let’s fix that! Do you want your Grave Robber, Vestal, Man-at-Arms, Hellion party to be called “Charlie’s Angels”? Now’s your chance!

Please follow this link and use fill out the form. Be sure to submit your best because we will go through and select the ones we like the most to include in the game.

Note: we are only accepting 1 response per user, and to do that it requires you have a valid Google email account.

Note 2: Party names are subject to editing by our team.  Not all submissions will make it into the game.

    Public Beta

We are aiming to have the Radiant Update hit our “coming_in_hot” public beta branch on STEAM early next week. This will give interested players the ability to check out the changes we’ve implemented, including the new champion monsters like the Skiver. This is also a great opportunity for you to help us find any issues or bugs we may have missed, as well as voice feedback on the changes. We value this time as it helps us polish and tweak the design to make sure our own design expectations are being met and insuring a better play experience for everyone.

Check in next week for more specific details on when the beta will be made live, as well as a list of changes to look out for.

Guys, awesome job! And a question. If I start a new game (the shorter campaign) in the Public Beta, once the official patch comes through will I be able to continue the same campaign?

    Wow,

I just came back to the game after a long absence. Some GREAT changes.

However, this heart attack non-sense is utter garbage especially combined with forced missions like the Brigands invading the town. I’m afraid you’ve jumped the shark on difficulty level. I like perma-death and I like hard, what I don’t like is spinning my wheels to level a guy to level 6 (approximately 10+++ hours) and then having him die due to BS heart attacks and battles you can’t run away from. I just had guys dying due to heart attacks with Martyr’s Seal equipped for crying out loud. I’m pretty much done with this game having lost 3 level 6 hero’s due to impossible to retreat from battles.

That represents 30 REAL TIME hours I just saw go down the drain. Sure there is some overlap on time. I just found that I can change some of the configs which is too little too late now that 3x Level 6 guys ate it.

I had NO IDEA there were heart attack BS now. I’m sorry, but this went from challenging and fun to a Korean style time wasting grind. I’m pretty livid at all that time going down the drain. I have a job and a kid and to see it wasted like that is infuriating. If your goal was to have a tiny niche ultra hard Eve Online kind of no mercy game well you did it. If your goal was to have a game that was challenging and fun you way overshot the mark. You need way more difficulty scaling measures and you need to warn people returning to the game about bloody heart attacks and retreats failing constantly. To figure this out via multiple hero loss is beyond insane.

They have measures so you don’t get the Vvulf event too early and there are ways around having to do the actual dungeon besides killing him, you just have to do a little bit of research.

Did you know the first time they had heart attacks it was instant kill for the first one in a previous version before full release? They made it more manageable and so you only die on the second one and you have a chance. Its kinda your fault that you didn’t have any stress management in place in your run(s) especially when you had found out it was the case or you know try to kill the stress dealers first.

Secondly there are difficulties: Normal, NG+ and soon to come Radiant mode (Which will help with grinding, something that they are going for) and you can change the game setting to remove those things like corpses, heart attacks etc. If you go through the tutorial it tells you about the heart attacks and the retreating that might fail but I guess you didnt pay any attention to it and whose fault is that?

You need to learn from your mistakes and not blame them for something that you didnt know or care to look into.

Interprise is right, although they got a few detail wrong. There are ways around your predicament, but in the interest of fairness it is true that DD doesn’t always do the best job of explaining things, especially if you came back to an old save months after some updates.

First, we’ll clarify how heart attacks work. Heart attacks happen when you hit 200 stress, but what happens next depends whether or not you’re on Death’s Door:
If the hero is on Death’s Door at 200 stress, they instantly die.
If the hero is not on Death’s Door at 200 stress, they loose all their HP and their stress is set to 170.

So as long as you find a way to heal your character before they hit 200 stress again, they won’t instantly die. Pretty dang awful, but you can keep your characters alive longer by changing the difficulty options. Recalling from memory, but I believe there are four:
Turn retreat failure on or off (so you can always run away)
    Turn corpses on or off
Turn stalling combat penalty on or off (some players kill all but one guy then heal up. The combat penalty is to stop people from doing that, but you can toggle it off if you want.)
Turn enemy crits to normal or easy (either working on a multipler to hit over max damage or just doing max damage on a crit.)

You used to be able to turn heart attacks on or off, but that’s no longer the case.

Lastly, there’s Radiant Mode that’s coming out next week. As far as I know it reduces the cost of town upgrades and some other things so you don’t have to grind so long.

Actually, this is lastly, the Stage Coach got a new upgrade that makes it so new heroes can appear at levels 1-3 now.

I hope that helps you out.

Can you add Ironman mode? You select a hero as your primary. If that hero dies you have to start the whole game over again. Your primary hero gets bonuses to help with survival. Your primary hero has to go out once every 2 or 3 outings.

The game in its current state ensures you can’t lose. Sure you lose heroes, but eventually you’ll get through it and beat the game.

Ironman mode would force you to restart the whole game if you lose your main hero.

NG+ is already Ironman mode. The enemies are buffed, you can only lose 13 heroes, and there’s a time limit of 80 weeks.
